Check out the semester calendar for specific dates. Some events are still being planned, so check back, come to a meeting, or join the Facebook group for announcements so you don't miss anything! Questions about anything? Send us an email.
February 19th 2015 is the inaugural National Anthropology Day! Declared by the American Anthropological Association, the spirit of National Anthropology day is "to celebrate anthropology and anthropologists across the world". Schools and businesses across the country who are focused on anthropology will be hosting events aimed at exposing the public to what anthropology is and what it has to offer! NIU's Anthropology Club is working this semester to officially take part in the celebration here on campus. Anyone interested in taking part with us is encouraged to come to one of our regular meetings or contact one of the eboard memebers expressing their interest!
Anthropology Club is excited to be hosting two field trips this semester: one will be to the Field Museum in Chicago, and the other trip will be to the Sycamore Natural History Museum here in DeKalb County. Stay tuned on as we work on planning. With events like this we need the help of everyone who is interested in order to make it happen!
The Anthro Talks series are talks from NIU's faculty in the anthropology department, hosted by Anthropology Club. Our goal with these talks is to help cultivate a connection between students and professors. Our guest speakers will provide some background on their education, careers, and their interests. AnthroTalks will help students understand what anthropology has to offer to the individual and will provide some insight into what a career path in anthropology might look like.
Food Excursions are hosted by the club to give everyone an opportunity to get a taste of something different from another culture! We meet (carpooling is usually an option) at a local ethnic restaurant and share in a meal with good company. This semester we are planning for one food excursion and one potluck. If you know a great recipe, possibly from your unique cultural heritage, come share it with everyone at the potluck!
Movies Showings are a great opportunity to get together and relax while enjoying an anthropology-themed film or documentary. We generally provide food and drinks during the film and there may be brief discussion afterward.
